The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program
Open to women and men from developed countries with appropriate technical expertise and a history of promoting the development activities of their countries who qualify for a development-related Master’s degree program.
According to the funds available, JJWBGSP provides scholarships for 30 Recommended Programs (.xlsx) covering a broad variety of development issues and for 10 Partner Programs (.xlsx) at the U.S., European and Japanese universities in core growth fields including economic policy administration, tax policy, and infrastructure management.
Note The partner programs and preferred services that scholars updated by 2020. You are not eligible to qualify for a JJWBGSP Scholarship in 2020 if you are not accepted to one of these programs.

The World Bank Scholarships Program currently provides two types of financing to mid-career professionals and students for graduate studies in development-related fields:
Eligibility
- Do not hold dual nationality in any developing country
- Be in good health
- Have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) at least 3 years before the date for registration
- Having 3 years or more of recent development-related job experience after receiving a (or equivalent) Bachelor’s degree
- At the time of submission of the scholarship application, be employed in development-related jobs in a paying full-time job.

Selection Process
The JJ / WBGSP uses the following method to review applications from developing country nationals for qualifying scholarships, with the goal of selecting applicants with the greatest potential to affect their country’s growth after completing their graduate studies.
Two professional assessors evaluate each qualifying applicant separately and rate the applicant on a scale of 1 to 10 taking into account four key factors and the degree of consistency between them:
- Quality of Professional Experience (30% weight)
- Quality of Professional Recommendations (30% weight)
- Quality of Commitment to your Home Country (30% weight)
- Quality of Education Background (10% weight)
