Job Description:

General responsibilitiesمسؤلیت های عمومی :

The Project Manager is in charge of the implementation of the World Food Program (WFP) funded project in Nangahar and Kunar provinces, aiming at contributing to improving young infant and young child feeding practice in Afghanistan, by revising the methodology used for implementing nutrition promotion through applying a Social and Behavioural Change Communication approach.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Field Coordinator, the Project Manager is directly responsible for the teams under his responsibility. Therefore, he should be fully aware and agree with their planning and their methodology.

An important part of his work is to ensure the coordination and the negotiations with local authorities (Community representatives, Provincial Public Health Director, etc.), WFP technical team, and BPHS implementers in Nangahar (AADA) and in Kunar (HN-TPO) and when necessary, with the Ministry of Public Health in Kabul.


Under the supervision of the Deputy Field Coordinator:

– To implement, coordinate & monitor the project: revision of nutrition promotion key messages and tools; integration of SBCC key messages in the communication plan; dissemination of SBCC nutrition key messages to patients and communities.

– To coordinate, monitor & supervise the project staff: Nutrition Supervisors in charge of MHTs and HFs supervision; follow up of activities at a health facility, mobile health team, and community level

– To liaise with the MEAL team in charge of the tracking and reporting of lessons learned on the revision of SBCC tools through the intervention

– To represent PU-AMI with the provincial partners, BPHS implementers, and to attend national meetings when necessary.

– To write reports.

– To manage the budget of the project.

– To supervise the logistical management of the assets.

– To supervise the human resources of the project.

– To ensure the timely implementation of the project as mentioned in the work plan.

– To monitor and take actions in order to accomplish the objectives and indicators of the project.

– Capacity building of project teams.

Objective 1هدف اول :

Activities/Main dutiesفعالیت ها/ وظایف عمده:

– Organize regular meetings with his team

– Following up of the work plan and another detailed action plan with support from the Deputy Field Coordinator

– Participate in the organization of training

– Regularly visit the project locations (security allowing)

– Actively take part in supervision and monitoring of the program

– Revise and approve team plans

– Set up implementation planning, follow-up tools & regular updates

– Organize need assessment and surveys (in coordination with MEAL team)

– Supervise the nutrition management of the project (including pharmacy supply)

Objective 2هدف دوم:

– Ensure data collection needs are well identified

– Ensure data collection tools are well designed, correctly in place, and adopted

– Centralize data/tools on a monthly basis and support with the insertion of data

– Ensure the accuracy of data with direct monitoring and supervision

– Collect, categorize and archive original copies of project data

– Assist the project staff with M&E tools and supporting them in their use

– Preparation of monthly monitoring reports and Data Analysis report

– Ensure accurate revision of messages and IEC material regarding nutrition

– Ensure good diffusion and reception of the revised messages

– Support the MEAL team in tracking and reporting the process of revision of SBCC tools in nutrition promotion

Objective 3هدف سوم :

– Follow up of the Project Monitoring Tool (PMT) in collaboration with the Grant Officer and Deputy Field Coordinator

– Regular monitoring of the quality of services provided through field visits

– Updating Deputy Field Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Area Health Manager, and Deputy Head of Mission for Programs with Field visit reports

– Identification of challenges in quality of implementation and follow-up with Deputy Field Coordinator: solution-finding and ensuring of their accurate implementation

Objective 4هدف چهارم :

-Support Deputy Field Coordinator with programmatic reporting as per PU-AMI and donor (WFP) requirement

– Preparation of cluster and donor report as per requirements

– drafting success stories as per supervisor/donor requirements

Objective 5هدف چهار: Logistics and Security management

Activities/Main dutiesفعالیت ها/ وظایف عمده:

– Organize all procurement, distributions, and purchases in accordance with budget and program needs

– Monitor the appropriate use of assets

– Anticipate program needs

– Use of and respect of PU-AMI logistics tools and procedures

– Ensure security of program teams at all times

– Report any security incident (or warning) to the security focal point

Objective 6هدف چهار: Finance management

– Monthly review of BFU with Finance, Log, HR and in strong collaboration with Deputy Field Coordinator and Area Finance Manager

– Implement PU-AMI standards and procedures, contribute to improving them

– Support in respecting financial deadlines and following the monthly finance organization

Job Requirements:

Qualification/ Requirements تحصیلات و شرایط لازمه

– Medical doctor or health professional with nutrition specialization or public health

– At least 3 years of experience working with the BPHS and nutrition-related programs

– Strong familiarity with Nangahar and Kunar province, including hard-to-reach areas

– Good command of IEC material development

– Experience in building and providing training

– Good knowledge of nutrition standards

– Strong capacity for supervision, monitoring, reporting, and communication

– Excellent knowledge of Pashto and dari, full command of English (report writing)

– Rigorous, autonomous, versatile, and capable of finding a creative solution

– Resilient to stress
